We are excited to announce that Ikala Stem will be hosting a three-day STEM based activities on
23 - 25 April 2020
in Arivonimamo, Antananarivo.
What is LAMPS?
LAMPS, or Leveraging local AstronoMy site to Promote STEM, is a three-day STEM based activities including a Fair or Kerimesy. Its aims to promote awareness and guidance on how science could be used as an anchor for development. Through STEM-oriented activities, the project aims to promote STEM education and demonstrate the relevance of STEM for local socio-economic development; inform learners on the importance of STEM fields in daily life; and encourage them to pursue STEM-oriented studies/careers.
The event will take place near the AVN site, in Arivonimamo, home of the future radio astronomy telescope in Madagascar in April 2020. The primary targets are learners from Grade 1 through high school.
What will you see during the LAMPS?
During the first two days of the event, Ikala STEM volunteers will visit the target schools and showcase the relevance of STEM subjects through science-based activities. The third day is a fair where collaborators will have exhibition stands to perform hands-on activities. There will also be interschool quiz competition, named “STEM Olympiad”, and inspiring stories of women in STEM.
